The Current State of British Immigration

British ImmigrationStatistics show how Britain’s population has grown due to the mass immigration that has happened in recent years. The migration figures from 2014 are at an estimate of 100,000 in London alone, but in each and every region, the population has indeed grown. With this, an official analysis reports how Britain has become 10% more crowded. In every square kilometre in London, there are around 5,000 people — this is the current state of British immigration — quite welcoming.

Possible Causes for the Rising Numbers

An immigration lawyer in London discusses how there is an ever shortening list of countries from which people can enter the UK without having a visa. The visa that they must obtain, as the Immigration Rules provide, has twelve categories:

  • General
  • Child
  • Business and Academic Visitors
  • Sports
  •  Entertainer
  • Student
  • Prospective Entrepreneur
  • Visitors in Transit
  • Visitors for Private Medical Treatment
  • Visitors for Marriage or to Enter a Civil Partnership
  • Visitors as the Parent of a Child at School in the UK
  • Nationals of the People’s Republic of China under the Approved Destination Agreement

This loosening on visa requirements contributes to the increasing population of immigrants. The Points-Based System also exists as an immigration route to the UK. Introduced in 2008 and 2009, the Home Office’s Points-Based System is composed of five tiers. It is an option available to potential immigrants with employment, investment or entrepreneurial intentions.

The Numbers Do Not Lie

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the figures — in the Eastern Region of Britain, the population has risen by 11.7%, and in London, by 16.6%. Overall, the population in the UK has grown by as much as 10% since 2001. This has reached the attention of the ONS as an alarming thought of overcrowding where the economy is thriving. This can cause a domino effect, wherein parents will lack schools to enter their children in, and housing costs are sure to rise.

Around two-thirds worth of immigration in the last two decades is to credit for the intensifying population density. Officials have addressed the situation by stating that the Labour has lost its control over immigration across Britain.
