Child Custody in Los AngelesThere was a time when it’s almost an automatic decision that the mother gets full custody when couples file for divorce. If you fear that this will also happen to you when you’re going through a divorce, worry not because you can still win the custody battle. The court is more open to fathers winning now because both parents are more likely pursuing their professional careers. Here are some of the things you should never do if you don’t want to sabotage your own child custody battle.

Moving In with New Girlfriend

You can ask any child custody lawyer in Los Angeles and the consensus would be letting someone new enter your life is a no-no when the divorce and child custody battle is not yet done. It’s already traumatic for children to see their parents separate. When you move in with someone new, you’re just making it more hurtful for them. In a child custody battle, the children’s needs come first, so focus on that instead of moving on quickly.

Yelling at Your Wife or Children

The mother can easily attempt to record your telephone or personal conversations to catch you off guard when you are furious or angry. That’s why no matter how difficult the situation may be or how angry your wife makes you, you should never yell or get into a fight with her. More importantly, you should never do it to your kids. Fight the urge to throw tantrums if it’s really custody that you want.

Criticizing the Mother to Your Friends

Your friends will most likely be your ex-wife’s friends, as well. That’s why it’s not a good idea to criticize her to your friends, family, and neighbors. Your rude comments may reach your wife and may be used against you in court. Instead of letting bitterness and anger get the best of you, just try to forgive and focus on the good.
