Bribery, Fraud, and More: What White Collar Crimes Are All About

White Collar CrimeWhite collar crimes are often viewed as less serious compared to other types of law offenses.

In fact, according to Houston criminal lawyers, only a few regard a white collar crime to be a serious enough issue. But, in reality, although this particular type of offense doesn’t fall directly as a violent act, it destroys the life of many people, too.

From embezzling company funds to changing results through bribery, a lot of lives become miserable. The saddest fact is: no one seems to fully understand the gravity of this crime.

So, here are the different types of white collar crimes and how it can affect you:

Bank Fraud

This means stealing from the bank from the inside. Unlike robberies, a bank fraud can take money without anyone noticing.

How it affects you: A defrauded bank can foreclose, and it’s unlikely that you’ll get your deposited money back in full.

Bribery

This applies to a broad range of subjects. But, in essence, by bribing people, you can’t be sure of fair play anymore.

How it affects you: If you accept some form of bribe, you can go to jail as an accessory to the crime.

Computer Fraud

These days, a lot of people worship the digital robin hoods who steal online money from the rich. But, what many people don’t know is that it also affects physical banks all over the world.

How it affects you: Depending on the severity of fraud, if a bank loses its assets (online or offline), it can also foreclose.

Credit Card Fraud

In simple terms, this is the unauthorized use of credit cards to obtain goods or services.

How it affects you: If someone got a hold of your credit card information, they can use it, burying you with debts you didn’t even know you incurred.

Insider Trading

This crime may seem insignificant. But, if a trader purposely gives out sensitive information about a particular company, it affects the whole economy.

How it affects you: When the economic stability of the country collapses, everyone goes down with it.

White Collar crimes are non-violent crimes, but this doesn’t mean these can’t affect you. In some ways, crimes always find ways to hurt others.
