If you’re thinking of joining the thousands you see on the streets riding a bike instead of driving or riding the bus, you should know these benefits:

  1. It’s great for your outlook and general disposition. Most people who take up biking learn from the first ride that they love it. They enjoy biking so much it becomes a big part of their lives, whether for going to work or just for enjoying a nice afternoon ride.
  2. It’s safer for your ankles, knees, legs and feet. This is true when you compare it to running as an exercise. Running is extremely demanding for these parts of your body. Biking, on the other hand, lets you enjoy your exercise without sacrificing your limbs.
  3. It gives you a sense of freedom and lets you save money. You can save a few hundred dollars a month you’d probably spend on fuel and maintenance if you had to drive everywhere. While with biking, you don’t need fuel and it lets you ride with a feeling of freedom and exhilaration.

Of course, biking gives you some healthy cardio workout and improves your stamina. It lets you help mother earth as well because you don’t contribute to the carbon monoxide that cars emit. What you have to remember, however, is you need to be always alert when on the road, because unlike cars, a bike can’t protect you if you get hit by a passing truck.
