P-Noy to keynote PPI confab

His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III will be the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker in the opening ceremonies of the Philippine Press Institute’s 16th National Press Forum “Media Accountability and Public Engagement” and 2012 Annual Membership Meeting on April 23, 2012 at the Traders Hotel Manila.

He is the first-ever President of the Republic who will grace the annual gathering of publishers and editors representing the member-publications of the Institute.

Philippine libel law incompatible with freedom of expression – UN HRC

January 31 marked a milestone for the campaign for freedom of expression as the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) released a resolution declaring the country’s libel law discordant with the provision in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights that upholds free expression as a right.

Board welcomes 4 papers as probationary; orders strict use of PPI logo

The PPI Board of Trustees in its two previous meetings approved to invite four community newspapers as probationary members of the Institute.

BusinessWeek Mindanao (Cagayan de Oro City), Baguio Chronicle (Baguio City), Eastern Visayas Mail (Ormoc City) and Sun.Star Superbalita CDO (Cagayan de Oro City) join the roster of PPI members which now count to 73.
